Happy New Year! So a lot has happened since last May. I went to Team Universe and placed 2nd in the Fitness Tall class, losing by 2 points to the overall Fitness winner Nicole Wilkens. Either way, 2nd place was good enough for my IFBB Pro Card. It was so exciting to finally achieve my goal. The best part was that I was with my family from New York and they got to see me perform and get my card. They were great at helping me eat great food afterwards too. I had already planned on going to the Europa show 4 weeks later to cheer on my friends IFBB Pro's Tanji Johnson and Tami Ough, but since I qualified into the IFBB, I decided to throw a 45 second routine together and compete myself. It was so surreal standing on that stage with Tanji, Tami, Adela, Mindi O, Julie Lohre etc, all the people I've looked up to. I ended up placing 11th out of 26, which I was thrilled with. I just didn't want to come in last, and I did better than that. I also went to the West Palm Beach Pro in October and placed 5th! I was on cloud nine. I have to attribute a lot of my success to my new trainer, John Kreklo from Austin, TX. I met him at the Europa and we ended up deciding to work together. He is amazing at figuring out how to get my physique to do what I was trying to do but couldn't quite figure it out. If you'd like to contact him, just email me through my website and I can give you his info.
For 2008, I'm looking forward to another fun year of Fitness with maybe a couple of figure shows mixed in. I'm hoping to find some sponsorship so I can afford to do more shows. I most likely will be at the NY Pro Fitness show on April 12th, and then we'll see where the year takes me from there. I will be guest performing at the Emerald Cup in April in Bellevue, WA as well. It's a huge honor to be asked to perform there, and I'm really looking forward to it.
I will try to update my blog every month or so, or if something exciting happens.
Take care.

Wow, where does time go? I ended up 3rd place again at Nationals, which was great, but I was still hoping to get top 2 and that IFBB Pro card. I felt a little burned out and decided to allow myself not to think about competing in 2007 for awhile, and to just keep training for fun. At about 5 weeks out from the Emerald Cup, I decided I wanted to compete in fitness again. I was able to get in decent shape and to make it through my routine, so I was just going into it to have fun, and to hopefully place well. At the morning registration, I also decided to enter open figure as well. It must have been my lucky day because everything fell into place for me. I hit everything in my routine which felt great, and I also got good callouts in the figure division. I ended up 1st in figure and also in fitness, plus overall fitness as well. It was a very exciting day for me and it feels SO good to be back. I am now training toward Team Universe in New York in July. I have such a different mindset now, and I'm really enjoying being able to compete. I realize I let winning dictate whether I was enjoying myself or not, and once I just wanted to have fun at it, the winning came on it's own. I hope you're all doing well. Have fun!!

Well, it's about time for Nationals, and I'm heading out to Miami tomorrow morning. I'm so excited to run my new routine, and feel pretty good about the changes I've made to it. I'm so thankful that my body has held together this time. I have a few bumps and bruises, but it's not going to stop me from competing. At first, I wasn't sure I could hang on until November to compete again, but now I'm so glad I did. I'm rewarding myself with a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean with my son after the show. That will be nice to lay around and eat all I want!! I'll update later with how the show went.

I'm back from Team U, and had a great time. It was so great to see so many familiar faces there. I forgot about another Pacific NW competitor, Misty Green was going to be there as well, and placed 4th in her Figure class. Karen Patten ended up winning her class, so she is now an IFBB pro. Congrats Karen!! I placed 3rd in my class, which of course was one place away from my pro card. I did however place 1st in both Physique rounds which felt great! My routine felt pretty good, but I still ended up 10th there. I had only been working that routine for about 3 weeks, so I think I can polish it up and make it better for Nationals. Yep, I going to hang on for one more show and do Nationals in Miami in November. I'm taking a little break from dieting and enjoying the summer before hitting it hard sometime in August. You can see a few pictures in the galley section from the show.

Well, I've been away from my website for awhile, and decided now was a great time to update my journal. A lot has happened over the past year including several injuries. I tore both hamstrings (not at the same time) and tore my calf muscle. If any of you have torn a calf before, you know how painful that can be. I'm a regular at the Physical Therapy dept at Virginia Mason. They've done a great job getting me back to where I can compete in Fitness again.
Due to the injuries, I was doing figure just to stay in shape. I competed in the 2005 Master's Nationals Figure show in Pittsburgh and won my class. I was up for the overall and a pro card, but didn't quite get there. I then went to Team Universe in New York 2 weeks later and ended up in the group of 16th placers. I realize now that I was just depleted and too small to be competitive.
2006 brought a new year and new hopes to get back into fitness. My 1st show of the year was to be the Emerald Cup, but that's when I tore my calf, so I had to settle for Figure instead. I managed to place 8 out of 21 women.
I just competed at Jr Nationals in Chicago 2 weeks ago, and I was finally able to do Fitness again. It felt so great to get back up there doing a routine. I had to do a pretty basic routine however, because I had a newly torn hamstring, but I did OK in the physique rounds. Must be all those figure shows I did. I ended up 3rd. Anyway, I got some great feedback from the judges and will be heading off to Team Universe in 2 weeks with a new routine. I have to thank Fitness Pro Tanji Johnson for squeezing in a last minute choreography session to help me get my routine fixed up.
I'm so excited for Team U this year. I will have so many friends competing there including Karen Patten (who just took her class at Jrs), Rose Hendricks, Jessica Nabinger, and Safiya Johnson (Tanji's sister). Tanji is coming along too as well as Rose's sister Sue Romero. Yes, the Pacific Northwest will be represented in full force. Michelle Troll will also be there competing in Figure. It's gonna be a party (at least after the show).
Well, that pretty much recaps what I've been up to. I'll post more after Team U. Have a great day, and train hard.
Love,
Michele
